Shift File Transfer Failures

01 Nov, 2018

At approximately 12:43 a.m. Pacific Time on November 1, 2018, the drive holding metadata for Shift file transfers failed. At 9:55 a.m., new metadata was redirected to a different drive. If you have used Shift to transfer data recently, please note:

  • Any transfers that were active at the time the drive failed are not recoverable.
  • The status of transfers completed between the end of the HECC dedicated time (October 30) and the time of the drive failure will be inaccessible.
  • New transfers that started between 12:43 a.m. and 9:55 a.m. on November 1 would have failed with the following message:
Cannot create user metadata directory: File exists

Users likely to have been affected will be contacted.  If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Control Room at (800) 331-8737, (650) 604-4444, or support@nas.nasa.gov.
