New PBS Feature: Reserving Skylake Nodes for "At-Scale" (Wide) Jobs

06 Dec, 2018

A new PBS queue, called sky_wide, is now available to help you run very wide (at-scale) jobs on Electra's Skylake nodes by ensuring that at least once a week, the jobs in the queue will have enough available nodes to run.

Each week, jobs submitted to the sky_wide queue by Thursday at 5:00 p.m. (Pacific Time) will have nodes reserved for them starting the following Monday at 10:00 a.m. The jobs must request between 25 and 50 percent of the total number of Skylake nodes and will be run one at a time, from widest to narrowest, until they are finished. Each job will run in its own reservation, giving you an opportunity to correct a failing program and try it again until it succeeds or the reservation expires.
