Mass Storage Filesystem Upgrades

24 May, 2011

New filesystems have recently been added to the mass storage systems Lou1 and Lou2 to increase the available disk cache.

On Lou1, a 60-TB filesystem and a 120-TB filesystem have been added (287 TB total).
On Lou2, two 60-TB filesystems and a 120 TB filesystem have been added (355 TB total).

Many users will be transitioned to the new filesystems to evenly distribute the increasing load.

These enhancements will increase the time that files stay resident on disk.  Additionally, we encourage you to run the command "dmput -r" on files that you know will not be used anytime soon. This will push those files to tape and can dramatically increase the time that your frequently accessed files stay on the disk.

See the Archiving Data Overview for links to additional storage-related topics for additional information.
