Rescheduled: PBS Dedicated Time for PBS Pro Update on March 318 Feb, 2020
HECC's batch job processing software, PBS Professional (PBS Pro), will be updated from Version 13 to Version 19 on nodes served on Pleiades, Electra and Aitken on Tuesday, March 3, 2020, from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Pacific Time. During this time, PBS will be unavailable. No jobs will be running and you will not be able to submit or delete jobs. See the previous notification below for details, and see the HECC Knowledge Base article Commonly Used qsub Options for more technical information. Updated notification from January 29, 2020 Due to a number of issues, the update to PBS Pro Version 19 on Pleiades, Electra, and Aitken has been rolled back to the previously installed version, PBS Pro Version 13. Therefore, the new feature described in the previous notification (below) is not yet available. It will be implemented once the systems are successfully updated with PBS Pro Version 19. A timeframe has not yet been established. Please contact us if you have any questions. Previous Notification The dedicated time has completed. Pleiades and Electra are back online and available. Note: Aitken is still unavailable due to a scheduled maintenance outage (through January 30 at 6:00 p.m., Pacific Time). HECC's batch job processing software, PBS Professional (PBS Pro), was updated from Version 13 to Version 19 on Pleiades, Electra, and Aitken. This version is also running on Merope. PBS Pro Version 19 is the basis for several features that we plan to introduce this year. The first of these is now available: A new "d" (direct) option to the qsub "-k" argument. The "d" option changes the way the standard output and error files from a job are handled when qsub "-k" is used. Usually, the output and error files are collected until the job ends and only then copied back to their destination files. With "-kod", the job writes directly to its output file as it is running. Similarly, with "-ked", the error file is written directly. This allows you to better monitor the job as it runs.
