Update to Authentication Method on NAS Supercomputers

24 Apr, 2023

Updated NASA security regulations require that NAS supercomputers drop password authentication in support of RSA SecurID authentication. The roll-out for this change began on May 1, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. (Pacific Time), however, it will take some time to roll out the change to all NAS systems.

If you currently enter a password to log into NAS systems, once the change has been made, you will need to enter an RSA SecurID token code.

If you don’t currently enter a password for authentication, you will experience no change; your private SSH key authentication will continue to be your login authentication method.

No change to the running of computational jobs/workloads on NAS systems will be experienced as a result of this change.

If you have any issues with logging in to the NAS supercomputers, please contact the Control Room at (800) 331-8737, (650) 604-4444, or support@nas.nasa.gov.
