Action Required: Migrate Unused Data from /nobackup Filesystems

02 Nov, 2026

Usage on the /nobackup filesystems are beginning to reach levels where we will start to see performance degradation. Please clean up your data by migrating unneeded or unused files for your current jobs to Lou for long-term storage.

We encourage you to integrate data archiving into your workflow in order to avoid potential data loss, since these systems are not backed up by NAS. For details about the Lustre (/nobackup) filesystems and our policies, see the NAS Lustre Filesystem overview in the Knowledge Base.

For information on how to backup your data and ways to migrate your data to Lou, see the article Backing Up Your Data. If you need assistance with data management, please reach out to NAS Support at (800) 331-8737, (650) 604-4444, or support@nas.nasa.gov.
