Transition to TOSS4 from TOSS3 for Spring 2023

02 Jun, 2023

Due to NASA security requirements, nearly all HECC systems will transition to TOSS4, the Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8-based Tri-Lab Operating System Stack Version 4. The transition will take place through May 31. Portions of the systems will experience extended outages.

Note: For important information about using systems in the TOSS4 environment, see After the TOSS4 Transition below.

Modules

On nodes booted with a TOSS4 image, the default MODULEPATH includes:

/usr/share/Modules/modulefiles
/nasa/modulefiles/toss4
/nasa/modulefiles/slack
/nasa/modulefiles/pkgsrc/toss4

Use the module avail command to find what software modules are added under these paths.

Executables built under TOSS3 may also run under TOSS4. Please check for both correctness and performance. If you need to rebuild your executable under TOSS4, and you experience issues such as missing certain software packages or libraries, send an email to support@nas.nasa.gov to request support.

MPT Versions

Some versions of HPE MPT are not compatible with TOSS4. We recommend using the default MPT version, which is accessed by specifying mpi-hpe/mpt as described in Using the NAS Recommended MPT Library. The default version will always be compatible with both TOSS3 and TOSS4.
