Pleiades and Electra Operating Systems Upgraded to SLES 12

28 Jun, 2017

On June 28, 2017, all of the Pleiades and Electra compute nodes and five front-end systems (pfe21–25) were upgraded to SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12 Service Pack 2 (SLES 12 SP2) as the default operating system.

You might need to change the way you compile and run your applications under SLES 12. If you have not yet tested your applications in the SLES 12 environment, see SLES 12 Migration for more information.

Along with the operating system upgrade, there has also been a change in the way software modules in the /nasa directory are managed, and the number of available modules has decreased. See NAS Software Policy and Software on NAS Systems for more information.

The following systems will remain at SLES 11 SP4 until further notice: GPU nodes, Merope, Endeavour, Lou front-end systems (LFEs), and Lou data analysis nodes (LDANs).

MVAPICH2 and Intel MPI users: Access to the MVAPICH2 and Intel MPIs will be restricted after the migration to SLES 12 due to their potential to cause InfiniBand stability issues. If you need access to these MPIs, please contact us and provide the specific version you need, along with a justification.

If you need assistance or experience problems with your code after the upgrade to SLES 12 SP2, or if you have any other questions, please contact NAS User Services at (800) 331-8737, (650) 604-4444, or support@nas.nasa.gov.
