Introducing Merope: Harpertown Cluster is Now Available to Users

16 Sep, 2013

We are happy to announce that the Harpertown cluster, known as Merope is now available to users.

The new system currently consists of 640 repurposed Harpertown nodes, each with 8 cores and 16 Gb of memory. Please expect the availability of processors to vary, as they will also be used for testing purposes.

Merope is part of the NAS secure enclave, so running jobs on Merope will be similar to running jobs on Pleiades, with some exceptions:

  • You may need to recompile your code, as Merope runs a CentOS kernel instead of SLES11
  • The front-end system for Merope is merope-fe1 and the PBS server is pbspl233
  • Each Harpertown node contains 16 gigabytes (GB) of memory instead of 8 GB
  • Pleiades /home and /nobackup filesystems are accessible from merope-fe1, pbspl233, and the Merope compute nodes
  • As other processor nodes (such as Westmere and Nehalem) are replaced, they may also be integrated into the Merope cluster
