Important Changes to Running MATLAB in Batch Jobs

22 Jun, 2016

On Pleiades and Merope, PBS batch jobs are no longer allowed to query the license server for MATLAB licenses. This change prevents multi-node PBS batch jobs from querying the license server from multiple nodes simultaneously, which can overwhelm the license server.

In order to run a MATLAB program in a PBS batch job, you will now need to compile the program first, as compiled programs do not access the license server. See the following Knowledge Base article for details about compiling and running MATLAB programs:

Compiling MATLAB Scripts into Executables to Reduce the Use of Licenses

Note: PBS interactive jobs will still be able to query the license server, as will jobs on Endeavour and the LDANs. However, if these types of jobs begin to overwhelm the license server, the jobs responsible for the problem will be terminated and the users will be contacted to resolve this problem.
