LAVA Voronoi Installation for External Users

If you do not have NAS system access, install LAVA Voronoi using the pre-compiled tarballs from the NASA Software Catalog.

If you are a NAS user, go to NAS Users (Module-Based Access).

Acquiring LAVA Voronoi

Download the appropriate tarball for your system from the NASA Software Catalog. Tarballs are named using the convention:

LAVAVORO_<version>_<compiler>_<mpi>_<arch>_<DateStamp>.tar.gz

Example: LAVAVORO_v1.0.0_Intel_OpenMPI_x86_64_2026.03.02.tar.gz

Available Build Configuration

LAVA Voronoi is currently available in two pre-built configurations:

Note

The executable uses AVX2 instructions for broad CPU compatibility across Intel and AMD processors.

Installation Steps

Extract the tarball

tar -xzf LAVAVORO_<version>_Intel_OpenMPI_x86_64_*.tar.gz
cd LAVAVORO_<version>_Intel_OpenMPI_x86_64

The extracted directory contains: - bin/ - LAVA Voronoi executable

Setup your Environment

Load the required modules and set environment variables like LD_LIBRARY_PATH based on your configuration.

Environment Setup for Intel + OpenMPI (x86_64 Systems)

Tarball: LAVAVORO_*_Intel_OpenMPI_x86_64_*.tar.gz

Required Software

  • Intel Compiler Suite 2023.2.1 or later
  • OpenMPI 4.1.5 or later

Environment Setup: 

# If using modules (recommended)
module load intel/2023.2.1
module load openmpi/4.1.5

# Add LAVA Voronoi binary to PATH
export PATH=/path/to/LAVAVORO/bin:${PATH}

Environment Setup for Intel + Cray-MPICH (x86_64 Systems)

Tarball: LAVAVORO_*_Intel_Cray-MPICH_x86_64_*.tar.gz

Required Software

  • Intel Compiler Suite 2023.2.1 or later
  • Cray MPICH

Environment Setup: 

# If using modules (recommended)
module load intel/2023.2.1
module load cray-mpich

# Add LAVA Voronoi binary to PATH
export PATH=/path/to/LAVAVORO/bin:${PATH}

Verify installation

ldd /path/to/LAVAVORO/bin/lavavoro.AVX2
All libraries should show resolved paths (no "not found").
