Contact Us

The LAVA community forum is the best way to contact the LAVA team about an issue. You can also email urgent or private matters to the lava-contact@nas.nasa.gov mailing list, which redirects to the LAVA development team leads (NASA civil servants). Please also use this mailing list to direct any inquiries or issues that may involve CUI or ITAR/EAR data.

Warning

Never send classified information to either the community forum or email list!

The forum is ideal for:

  • Non-sensitive uncontrolled data (never ITAR, CUI, or classified content)
  • LAVA bug reporting and troubleshooting
  • Questions about solver setup, input files, and meshing
  • Sharing tips, tricks, and best practices
  • Announcements and release discussions

The email list is ideal for:

  • Sharing issues that can not be reproduced on a non-proprietary geometry
  • Communicate directly with LAVA leads about a proprietary or sensitive concern
  • Requests for seminars or workshops
  • Questions about potential collaboration

Visit the LAVA Community Forum

The LAVA Community Forum is an independent discussion platform built on Discourse. It is the main channel of communication between users and the LAVA development team and the best place for users to post questions or comments about the code.

Community Operated

This forum is operated by the LAVA community to facilitate communications between users and contributors. It is NOT an official NASA system. Do not post sensitive, export-controlled, proprietary, or restricted information. Moderators reserve the right to delete content or remove access without notice. Any views or opinions expressed on the forum are those of the individual participants and do not represent the positions of NASA.

Why a Community Forum?

We are trying to make things easier by hosting questions and answers in one place where everyone can see them. The intention is to create a knowledge base by accumulating solutions and discussions over time. Furthermore, we will update posts with new answers as the code evolves.

How to Join

The forum uses an invite-only registration process. This is not to exclude anyone — we welcome all LAVA users. The invitation step simply helps us keep the community focused, reduce spam, and ensure that members have an active Software Usage Agreement (SUA) on file.

We have set up a streamlined process to make joining as quick and easy as possible:

  • Step 1 — Request Access

When you visit the community forum for the first time you will be prompted to fill out a short form with your name, organization, and SUA details. It only takes a couple of minutes.

  • Step 2 — Get Approved

Your request is reviewed by an administrator. Most requests are processed within a few business days.

  • Step 3 — Receive Your Invite

Once approved, a Discourse invitation link will be sent directly to your email. Click the link and you're in!
