Abstract

The PyVista software suite includes several Python libraries designed to simplify 3D visualization and mesh analysis by providing a streamlined interfaces to a variety of performant C++ libraries. By eliminating the need for extensive boilerplate code, the PyVista software suite enables users to efficiently load, process, and visualize a variety of datasets, making it an ideal tool for scientific computing, engineering analysis, and computer-aided engineering (CAE) applications.

This presentation explores PyVista’s capabilities, including its integration with VTK, ease of use compared to raw VTK workflows, and its applicability to CAE datasets. We highlight its advantages in handling large-scale simulations, mesh transformations, and interactive visualizations, demonstrating how PyVista enhances CAE post-processing and streamlines visualization pipelines. Through practical examples and comparisons, this session provides insights into how PyVista can improve productivity and foster better data-driven decision-making in simulation workflows.

Alex Kaszynski is a Simulation Engineer at Pasteur ISI and a contractor for the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL/USAF). He co-created PyVista, an open-source Python library that simplifies 3D visualization and analysis for scientific computing and engineering applications. Alex's open source CAE experience also includes four years at Ansys, culminating with becoming a distinguished engineer in part for developing PyAnsys, an open source library that exposes Ansys's products via Python and firmly believes in developing open-source solutions that bridge the gap between complex engineering software and user-friendly, Python-based workflows.
