Abstract

Advanced techniques for analyzing and understanding Big Data models are crucial for the success of any complex data-intensive decision-making process. As computational workflows permeate the modern scientific discovery process, new approaches are needed to manage, analyze, and make sense of scientific data as data sizes and complexity grows. CEDMAV research supports scientific workflows from when the data is produced, through its transformation and analysis, until the final stages of sense-making and decision support.

In this talk, I will present computation tools and approaches that permeate the software stack and all stages of workflows, dealing with many of the major impediments. Examples from neuroscience, materials science, wildfire management, and natural language processing show how key innovations at all stages of the workflows help reduce the time to discovery and produce new insights. Software elements covered in this talk will include a streaming infrastructure for managing/visualizing/analyzing data, topology-based methods for analysis, advances in visualization, and human-computer interaction methods, including virtual reality, high-dimensional analysis, and approaches for explainable AI.
