Abstract

Innovations in the aerospace industry are transforming the very nature of air-transportation. Until recently, leveraging multi-disciplinary simulation early in the design process to improve performance was largely unfeasible. Due to rapid improvements in High-Performance Computing and modern simulation methods, organizations are now looking to simulation tools to drive innovation into the design process. But this kind of innovation is often difficult to implement and organizations struggle to realize the promise of multi-disciplinary simulation. In this presentation, we will discuss how leading aerospace companies are realizing the benefits of simulation-driven design to improve performance and differentiate their products.

Biography

Durrell Rittenberg is the Aerospace and Defense Industry Segment Leader for STAR-CCM+ as part of the SimCenter portfolio. Over the past 17 years Durrell has helped engineering organizations leverage CFD and other computational methods to drive innovation in their design process. As Aerospace and Defense Industry Segment Leader for STAR-CCM+, Durrell worked with Aerospace and Defense customers around the world to tackle engineering design problems once the domain of costly design-test-fail repeat methods. Durrell received his Ph.D. in Chemical Physics from The University of Utah where he studied design, modeling and characterization of advanced materials. He studied at Osaka University as a Monbusho fellow and as a postdoctoral fellow at The University of Washington. He is currently a senior member of AIAA and a member of the Inlets, Nozzles, and Propulsion Systems Integration Technical Committee as well as a member of the CFD 2030 integration committee.
