Seminar Slide Deck (PDF-2.3MB)
Abstract
PyTecplot, Tecplot 360's new scripting interface, aims to solve many of the problems engineers face when dealing with large-scale CFD post-processing. With PyTecplot, users can automate complex analyses with ease. Processing speed is faster than with the Tecplot Macro Language, the Python scripts are easier to debug, and it integrates well with other packages such as Numpy and Scipy.
This talk will cover the high-level architecture of the PyTecplot package as well as a detailed presentation covering common tasks such as loading data, saving and presenting images. Current documentation and educational resources will be highlighted, followed by an overview of planned work and the direction PyTecplot will take in the coming year. For more information, please see PyTecplot's online documentation.

Alan Klug is the VP of Customer Development at Tecplot. Prior to entering business development, he worked for nearly a decade at Analytical Methods, Inc. in Redmond, WA as a CFD analyst, working with codes such as MSES, VSAERO, NSAERO, and later CFD++. He holds BS and MS degrees from Stanford in Aeronautics and Astronautics.
John Goetz is a software engineer for Tecplot, Inc. and a lead developer of PyTecplot, the new scripting interface to Tecplot 360. He received a Ph.D. in high-energy particle physics from UCLA using the particle accelerator at Jefferson Lab in Virginia, followed by a post-doctoral fellowship at Ohio University. For nearly twenty years, he has been developing software tools, both general and specialized, for scientific research and enjoys the broad topics of statistics and data visualization.
