Abstract

A comparison of the near-body solvers in the high-fidelity rotorocraft simulation code HPCMP CREATETM-AV Helios is presented. The HART II(Higher-harmonic Aeroacoustic Rotor Test II) rotor test case is used to understand the effect of the near-body solvers on the prediction of rotor wakes and BVI (Blade Vortex Interaction). Earlier research efforts using Helios used the unstructured solver NSU3D and the structured solver OVERFLOW in Helios to model the viscous effects close to the wall. Recently the NASA FUN3D unstructured solver was integrated in Helios and validated for the HART II baseline case. The airload predictions for the baseline, minimum noise, and minimum vibration cases are compared with the measured data and previous predictions. Comparison of rotor wake prediction for the baseline case using the three solvers will be presented and the vortex strength at several positions are compared with the measurements.
