Development and Validation of a Multi-Strand Solver for Complex Aerodynamic Flows
Speaker: Vinod Lakshminarayan, Science & Technology Corporation (STC), Moffett Field
Presentation
Abstract
The strand grid approach is a flow solution method where a prismatic-like grid using "strands" is grown to a short distance from the body surface to capture the viscous boundary layer and the rest of the domain is covered using an adaptive Cartesian grid. The approach offers several advantages in terms of nearly automatic grid generation as well as the ability to implement fast and efficient flow solvers. This talk will provide an overview of a recently developed multi-strand solver called mStrand, which will be part of the Army's high-fidelity CFD/CSD rotorcraft simulation framework - Helios. The talk will show detailed validation of the solver on problems with varying degree of complexity.
