Quota Enforcement Resumed on /nobackup Filesystems

Enforcement of hard quota limits that had been turned off for the Lustre /nobackup filesystems was resumed on February 8, 2017, with a different mechanism.

Quota limits were turned off for several months due to software bugs that were causing random file corruptions and Lustre server crashes. Now that the filesystems are filling up, enforcement is being resumed.

If you exceed your hard file-space quota, PBS will not start any of your jobs. Any running jobs will complete, and their writes will not be affected. The restrictions will remain until you are back under quota. Under the previous enforcement mechanism, all writes would fail once the hard limit or grace period was reached.

You can check whether you are over or under the hard file-space quota by running the following command line and comparing the "used" and "limit" fields in the output:

lfs quota -hu your_username /nobackup/your_username

In the near future, the enforcement of the two-week grace period for soft quotas will also be re-enabled.
