As part of the rollout of the 15 new Haswell racks to Pleiades, we have started an early access period to allow users to test their codes. During this period, we are asking users to help us identify any issues and to run some performance tests as part of their testing regimen. We expect the test period to run through Wednesday, October 22.
To submit a test job to run on Haswell nodes, use the “alphatst” queue. You can request up to 8 hours of run time on the alphatst queue. Your account will not be charged for the time used for your alphatst jobs. Be sure to specify Haswell nodes, as follows:
#PBS -lselect=XX:ncpus:….:model=has
Note: Each Haswell node has 24 cores and 128 GB of memory.
In your feedback, please provide specific information detailing the performance of jobs running on the Haswell nodes in comparison to similar jobs run on other nodes. If you encounter job failures with the new Haswell nodes, please let us know as soon as possible.
We're also interested in feedback regarding some compiler settings. To test the settings, compile code using the following sets of options, and run the executables on Haswell nodes to compare the builds:
Please email your feedback to support@nas.nasa.gov using the subject "Haswell Performance Feedback."
See the draft Knowledge Base article, Haswell Processors, for preliminary details on these new processors.
