11.17.15
A team from NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, Cycle Computing, Amazon Web Services (AWS), and Intel Corp. received a 2015 HPCwire Readers’ Choice Award at the international SC15 conference in Austin, Texas.
The Best HPC Collaboration Between Government and Industry award is for NASA’s study of climate change in the Sahara using high-performance computing (HPC), as part of a “Head in the Clouds” project.
Accepting the award in the NASA exhibit at the Austin Convention Center were Dan Duffy, Hoot Thompson, and Garrison Vaughan of the NASA Center for Climate Simulation (NCCS) at NASA Goddard and several representatives of Cycle Computing.
The ongoing study couples the NCCS Advanced Data Analytics Platform (ADAPT) with AWS by leveraging Cycle Computing’s cloud software tools. Principal investigators are Compton Tucker of NASA Goddard and Paul Morin of the University of Minnesota.
Tom Tabor, CEO of Tabor Communications, Inc. and publisher of HPCwire, presented the award. Each year, HPCwire conducts an awards program to recognize the best and the brightest developments in HPC over the previous 12 months.
For more information on the project, see Thompson’s SC15 demonstration, Estimating Trees and Shrubs in the Sub-Sahara Using Cloud Computing.
The awards are nominated and voted on by the global high-performance computing (HPC) community. The full award citation is available on the HPCwire website.
