Information Power Grid

To accelerate the accomplishment of NASA's research and development missions, the Numerical Aerospace Simulation Systems Division is building an Information Power Grid that enables the seamless integration of NASA's high-performance computing, data storage, and analysis capabilities into an interdisciplinary problem-solving and decision-making environment.

Power Grid

The Information Power Grid involves these key components:

System Users
Scientists and engineers using computation to accomplish NASA missions in aeronautics, earth sciences, space sciences, and air and space operations.

Intellegent Interface
A knowledge-based environment that offers users guidance on complex computing tasks.

Middleware
Software tools that enable interaction among users, applications, and system resources.

Cluster Operation System
The software which coordinates the interplay of computers, networks, and storage.

Supercomputing
Hetereogeneous collection of high-performance computer hardware and software resources.

Networking
The hardware and software that permits communication among distributed users and computer resources.

Mass Storage
A collection of devices that allow temporary and long-term archival storage of information.
