Assistant Division Chief of Technical Engineering

As Assistant Division Chief for Technical As the Computer Security Official (CSO) for the NAS Division, Arsi Vaziri is responsible for the security of information on NAS systems and related IT resources. He oversees resolution of various computer security issues and develops long-range plans and policies which help minimize risks associated with IT system vulnerabilities. He implements cyber security programs designed to anticipate, assess, and minimize vulnerabilities across different computer platforms and establishes vulnerability reporting criteria.

In addition, Vaziri acts as the CSO for the Exploration Technology Directorate at NASA Ames. In this role, he coordinates FISMA compliance, accreditation of system security plans and cyber security activities among security officials within the directorate. He reviews and evaluates security incident response reports and associated policies, as well as changes needed based on new security technologies or threats, and develops new policies to ensure awareness and compliance.

During his nearly 25-years at NASA Ames, Vaziri has been a research scientist with R&D experience in applications development, parallel visualization, and large-scale data and computer systems development and management. He has also managed key high-end computing (HEC) and grid projects for NASA and served as contracting officer's technical representative for major HEC contracts at Ames. Vaziri received a Ph.D. in Applied Science from the University of Delaware. Prior to his NASA career, he held academic and R&D positions at universities and private industry.
