Assistant Division Chief of Technical Engineering
As Assistant Division Chief for Technical Engineering, John Parks is responsible for overall facility planning, engineering, and operations activities for the entire NAS facility. This encompasses plans to accommodate new electrical, networking, water, and space requirements to support current and future supercomputing capabilities.
In his 30 years at NASA, Parks has led, developed, and implemented a broad range of projects, notably in high-end computing systems, mass storage, and high-speed networks. He has participated in or led major acquisitions of mass storage systems, state-of-the-art computing systems, support services contracts, large network systems, and key software packages.
During his 38-year government career, Parks has held varied roles in numerous branches of the federal government, including the Transportation, Treasury, and Defense departments, the Army and Coast Guard, Secret Service, and IRS Customs Department. Parks earned bachelor of science degrees in data processing and psychology from the University of Virginia, and a master's degree in information sciences from the University of San Francisco.
