Numerical Propulsion System Simulation

NPSS V1.0 will process Air Traffic data originating from a major US airport.
The Numerical Propulsion System Simulation (NPSS) is developing an object oriented framework for Aerospace Propulsion with the integration of multiple disciplines such as aerodynamics, structure, and heat transfer with numerical zooming on component codes.

NASA Glenn is developing an advanced multi-disciplinary analysis environment for aerospace propulsion systems called the Numerical Propulsion System Simulation (NPSS). NPSS is currently being extended to support the Aviation Safety Program (AvSP) and space transportation.

NPSS is developing an object oriented framework for Aerospace Propulsion with the integration of multiple disciplines such as aerodynamics, structure, and heat transfer with numerical zooming on component codes. Zooming is the coupling of analyses at various levels of fidelity.

NPSS development includes using the Common Object Request Broker Architecture (CORBA) in the NPSS Developer's Kit to facilitate collaborative engineering. The NPSS Developer's Kit provides the tools needed to: develop custom components, CORBA wrap legacy codes for zooming to higher fidelity codes, coupling of and to multidiscipline codes, transmitting secure data, and distributing simulations across multi-platforms.

These powerful capabilities will extend NPSS from a 0-D simulation tool to a multi-fidelity, multi-discipline system level simulation tool for the full life cycle of an engine.
