MAP '05 MODEL IMAGERY

modeling image of Hurricane Katrina

The Modeling, Analysis and Prediction (MAP '05) project provided Goddard scientists with new tools to allow a unique opportunity to directly analyze model data with real-world observations. Model data of atmospheric moisture (shades of red-green-blue) from a 42-hour GEOS4 forecast is overlaid on top of composite MODIS 1-km cloud imagery, producing an instantaneous comparison of the model forecast with the observed state of the atmosphere as Hurricane Katrina intensified in the Gulf of Mexico on August 28, 2005.
