Monitoring Tool Streamlines Performance Troubleshooting on Columbia
08.04.07
The NAS Division's software tools team has developed a streamlined "mini" version of the Columbia Heads-Up Display (HUD) monitoring system. MiniHUD is a graphical utility that gives control room operators and systems staff an at-a-glance view of the Columbia supercomputer's performance and status. It monitors Columbia 24x7, displays clear, real-time visual warnings of problems, and offers several efficient information layout alternatives.
The initial miniHUD display shows high-level system status information from which operators can drill down into a variety of details about system processors, disks, memory, network communications, and more, to quickly diagnose any performance problem. This version of the HUD promotes ease of use and faster navigation for system operators by focusing the information presented in a requested panel, in contrast to the comprehensive, single-screen Columbia HUD, which favors Columbia user and management needs.
The miniHUD is currently viewable within the NAS domain, and a version viewable from outside NAS is in the works.
