NAS Division Updates Widely Used Chimera Grid Tools Software

08.15.07
The NASA Advanced Supercomputing (NAS) Division has released a new version of the Chimera Grid Tools (CGT) software package. Many new modules and features have been added to the software, which is comprised of a suite of tools for grid generation, diagnostics, and pre- and post-processing of computational fluid dynamics simulations.

Enhancements include:
  • The capability to "read in" native solid computer-aided design models to perform visualization and grid generation using the OVERGRID graphical interface
  • Expansion of the CGT Script Library to include more macros for rapid parametric grid generation script creation
  • Porting of the software to Linux, Unix, Mac OS-X, and Windows XP platforms
The software is best suited for simulations that require creation and manipulation of overset structured grids and unstructured surface triangulations on complex configurations. CGT is commonly used in applications that utilize the OVERFLOW-2 compressible viscous flow solver, the INS3D incompressible viscous flow solver, and the CART3D inviscid flow solver. As a result, CGT directly supports many important NASA projects, as well as other projects in government and industry that utilize similar grid technologies.
