AMES ACCESS: From Moffett Blvd., get into the right lane and drive up to the main gate. Turn right at the guard station to the Visitor Control Building (N26), for registration.

A detailed map of Ames Research Center is available at the Visitor Control Building upon request. NAS is in building N258 (top left on map).

Please allow extra time for possible long lines at the Visitor Control Building.

NAS ACCESS: From the Visitor Control Building, cross over Moffett Blvd. to Parsons Avenue. Take Parsons past Gate 18 and the Ames Visitors Center to Gate 17 (not shown on map). After passing through the gate, the NAS facility is about 1/2 mile straight ahead.


  • All visitors must check in at the Visitor Control Building.

  • Permanent Residents must bring their Green Cards.

  • Foreign Nationals (who are not Permanent Residents and do not have Green Cards) must contact the point of contact for their visit 30 days in advance of the visit date.

    If approved for Ames access, a passport is required.

  • A picture ID is required for all visitors.

THE EAST BAY: Berkeley, Oakland, Hayward, Fremont

Take 880 South to Hwy 84. Cross the Dumbarton Bridge. Turn left at the second stop light; follow the signs to US 101 South. The Moffett Blvd. exit is about ten minutes.

US 101 SOUTH: San Francisco International Airport

Just after the Hwy 85 exit and the Moffett Blvd. exit, take the Moffett Field exit to the main gate.

US 101 NORTH: San Jose International Airport

Take the Moffett Field exit (just after the Ellis Street exit) and proceed to the main gate.

HWY 85 NORTH: Cupertino area

Take the Moffett Blvd. exit. Turn right at the stop light and proceed to the main gate.

EL CAMINO REAL: Mountain View, Sunnyvale

Ask the hotel staff how to get to Castro Street (that is, whether you go right or left from your hotel and how far). Castro Street becomes Moffett Blvd. Follow Moffett Blvd. to the main gate.
