DEPUTY DIVISION CHIEF (ACTING), BRYAN BIEGEL

Photo of Bryan Biegel Bryan Biegel serves a dual role as acting deputy chief of the NAS Division and chief of the division's Applied Modeling and Simulation Branch. As deputy division chief, Biegel shares management of all division activities with the division chief, focusing on creating a productive and high-impact supercomputing facility. He achieves this by leading and implementing initiatives that support Technical Excellence and NASA's core values of Safety, Integrity, Teamwork, and Mission Success. As Applied Modeling and Simulation Branch chief, Biegel manages a team of experts who design and conduct large-scale numerical simulations, primarily for mission-critical engineering applications and decision support of importance to NASA.

Dr. Biegel also functions as NASA's representative to the interagency subcommittee on Networking and Information Technology Research and Development (NITRD), and as NASA's representative to the NITRD High End Computing Interagency Working Group (HEC-IWG).

Before joining the division management team in November 2000, Biegel worked as a contractor at the NAS facility, pursuing research in modeling and numerical simulation of nanoelectronics, space electronics, and quantum electronic devices.

Biegel has 15 years experience in software development for large-scale electronic device simulation, has published over 30 technical papers, and given numerous talks. He received a bachelor's and a master's degree in electrical engineering from the University of Oklahoma, and holds a Ph.D. in electrical engineering from Stanford University.
