DEPUTY DIVISION CHIEF (ACTING), BRYAN BIEGEL
Bryan Biegel serves a dual role as acting deputy chief of the NAS Division and chief of the division's Research Branch. As deputy division chief, Biegel shares management of all division activities with the division chief, focusing on creating a productive and high-impact supercomputing facility. He achieves this through staff development and empowerment, frequent communication, effective processes, and coordination across NASA and with other agencies. As Research Branch chief, Biegel manages several dozen experts, primarily in the Visualization Group and the Application Performance and Productivity Group.
Dr. Biegel also serves as the deputy contracting officer's technical representative (COTR) for the primary support contract in the division, and oversees all activities performed under the contract. He also functions as NASA's alternate representative to the interagency subcommittee on Networking and Information Technology Research and Development (NITRD).
Before joining the division management team in November 2000, Biegel worked as a contractor at the NAS facility, pursuing research in modeling and numerical simulation of nanoelectronics, space electronics, and quantum electronic devices.
Biegel has 15 years experience in software development for large-scale electronic device simulation, has published over 30 technical papers, and given numerous talks. He received a bachelor's and a master's degree in electrical engineering from the University of Oklahoma, and holds a Ph.D. in electrical engineering from Stanford University.
