About 70 percent of the NAS Systems Division staff is made up of people employed by "contractors"—commercial companies hired by the government because of their technical expertise in specific fields. Advanced Management Technology Inc. (AMTI) and Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC) are currently the two largest contractors at NAS.

The AMTI-CSC team (with AMTI as the prime contractor) hires for positions in a variety of specialties, including applications and tools, data analysis, high performance processing, and mass storage and archiving. Other example job titles include systems engineer, software engineer, systems analyst, scientific user consultant, and web developer.
