The Space Settlement Video Library contains QuickTime and MPEG video clips which can be opened by both Microsoft Windows-based PCs and Apple Macintoshes. To view either type of video, you need appropriate viewer software and your browser must be correctly configured to read and launch or save the file type.

Configuration of Browsers
Dated July 30, 1996To download and save QuickTime movies for either Apple or Windows computers, you must configure your browser to save the file to disk.
Newer browsers often include plug ins which may permit auto play and "fast starts," allowing the user to view video as it is downloading. If you have Internet Movie Tool, your QuickTime movies may begin to play as soon as they are selected. For more information about these new plug ins visit Apple's QuickTime plug in site. There are many plug ins available, especially for Windows-based computers at on the Netscape plug in home page.
If you are using a browser without these plug ins, here are a few tips:
Windows-based computers:Windows 95 computers visit Microsoft for advice.
- Make certain that you have QuickTime for Windows installed. In general you should maintain the original file extension in the file name dialog box. In the "Save As file type" box, choose to save as *.* which represents all files.

Use Player.exe to open the movie, and select all files *.* to see your downloaded file. Highlight the name of your movie, and click "Open" to see your movie. You will have to choose the forward button as you do on your vcr to play your movie.
- To launch QuickTime movies for Windows 3.1-based computers, configure your browser to launch the QuickTime Player.exe. Go to Preferences window and select Player.exe as the helper application.

Most Macintosh computers come equipped to open and play QuickTime movies. If your browser does not have the QuickTime plug in, the QuickTime extension must load at startup. Choose to save or launch in the preferences window of your browser.
