Turning Vanes

Turning vanes on a car in the front part of the race car

Turning vanes are used to divert the turbulent flow wake (created in back of the front wing and indside the front tires) away form the tunnels. These vertical wing sections are attached to the chassis between the front tires and the side pods. The vanes or deflectors reduce turbulence in the tunnels, resulting in more downforce.
